Based on the DECC numbers of last week, CompareMySolar looks ahead and provides a forecast of the expected number of solar installations. Since the Feed-in-tariff will be cut from August 1st, another mini-boom of installations is expected in the next two weeks.
During previous rounds of Feed-in-Tariff cuts (e.g. December 2011 – which didn’t go through, March 2012, and April 2012 – EPC measures) the number of installations peaked just before the cut. On average the growth was 150% per week in the last two weeks, followed by a 90% drop in solar panel installations the week after the cuts. Applying this rationale to the latest DECC numbers gives the following forecast:
Despite yet another mini boom of solar installations, it remains a difficult time for solar installers. Since there are over 4.000 installers, having just over one installation per week is not going to provide enough income to sustain the business. As a consumer it is recommended to remain critical regarding warranties and future continuity of each solar installer you see – and to make sure you invite at least three solar installers to get some perspective.
